Atividades de Risco

Editorial| Research | Education

An educational book that introduces a methodology designed to help people overcome the fear of drawing.

Developed over two and a half years of theoretical and practical research, this project was carried out both at university, as my final project in the Bachelor’s Degree, and during creative events organized by the company where I worked.

You can see a little bit of the creative workshops inspired on this book in the Art Workshops page.

In this research, I interviewed professionals from various fields, delved into the literature, attended drawing classes, and developed practical workshops with a diverse audience. From this extensive investigation, I realized that the main obstacle preventing people from continuing to draw after reaching adulthood is the paralyzing fear of making mistakes—developed in late childhood and early adolescence and manifested in adulthood.

Drawing, an activity that was once fun in childhood, becomes a form of torture because the possibility of making mistakes, improvising, or exploring different alternatives no longer seems to exist. The instruments of social control make the body increasingly rigid and detached from the mind, often blocking an individual’s confidence to make even a simple doodle.

That is why this book is an invitation to improvisation—an invitation to play with drawing without expecting a result, but rather to explore the beauty and richness of the process in an experimental way. It is a carefully designed methodology meant to encourage the audience to lose their fear of the blank page. Through playful and experimental exercises, the activities gradually lead participants out of their comfort zones.

WHAT THE CLIENT SAYS

“You bring up very profound questions that made me stop and think — I even went on to discuss the issues you raise in this work with many people. Why did I stop drawing?”
